Neutering

Did you know that neutering does much more than prevent pregnancy?

You most likely already know that neutering prevents animals from falling pregnant. Neutering, or de-sexing an animal refers to the removal of their sexual organs.

A female animal is spayed by having her ovaries and uterus removed. A male animal has his testes removed and is therefore castrated.

Happy Patients

If you don’t plan to breed from your pet, neutering is the most responsible action to take. Not only does a litter of puppies or kittens require lots of hard work and attention, but they may also require more of a financial commitment than you bargained for.

At St Benedict’s veterinary hospital, your companion will only ever be cared for at the very highest standard. When done well, neutering is a straightforward procedure, and we aim to make it as pain free as possible.

We use a special anaesthetic that provides very little to no post-operative hangover, high levels of pain relief both during and after surgery and the surgery is done in a sterile, specially designated operating theatre.

Your pet will then be given plenty of TLC in a species-specific ward before being returned to you at the end of the day.
